SWF invites you to another round of our beloved In A Tiny Room series, a literary gathering in one of Singapore’s beautiful hidden spots. We trace the cultural import of hip hop - from its birth in the fires of the Bronx to its explosive impact on every corner of Asia. Spend an evening in one of Singapore's most charming vinyl stores (records on top, cold beers below) with iconic Hip Hop Historian Jeff Chang as he demonstrates on the microphone and on the decks how hip hop has become a cornerstone of globalisation, and evolved into a powerful political force to be reckoned with. Come for the history, stay for the funky fresh beats.

Jeff Chang

Jeff Chang’s Can't Stop Won't Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation was named one of the best U.S. nonfiction books of the last quarter century. His other books include Who We Be: A Cultural History of Race in Post Civil Rights America and We Gon' Be Alright: Notes On Race and Resegregation. He has received the American Book Award, the Asian American Literary Award, and the USA Ford Fellowship in Literature.

He is finishing Water Mirror Echo: Bruce Lee and the Making of Asian America.

Charlie Dark is a DJ, creative influencer, Global Ambassador for lululemon & poet. He founded the highly successful Run Dem Crew in 2007, a running collective made up of creative minds that meet to exchange ideas, explore the urban landscape & move.
