What inspires Singapore’s next generation of up-and-coming writers? Meet these emerging wordsmiths as they exchange stories on their writing and publishing journey thus far. They will speak about everything under the sun (that is, still related to their writing) – ranging from their genre of choice to their favourite writers to what’s next for them.

Natalie Wang

Singapore

Natalie Wang writes about cats, ghosts and womanhood. Her work has appeared in Rambutan Literary, Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, LONTAR and various editions of SingPoWriMo: The Anthology. The Woman Who Turned into a Vending Machine (Math Paper Press) is her debut collection of poetry.

Crispin Rodrigues is a poet, essayist and educator. His first collection of poetry, Pantomime, was published by Math Paper Press in 2018. His poems, short stories and non-fiction have been featured in anthologies such as Kepulauan (2014), A Luxury We Must Afford (2016) and SingPoWriMo.

Marylyn Tan enjoys exploring the conditions of alienation and marginalisation in her work. A linguistics major, poet and visual artist, she has been featured in various print and online publications, and on stages around the country. Her upcoming book, Gaze Back, concerns itself with witchcraft and the queer female body.

Judith Huang

Judith Huang’s first novel, Sofia and the Utopia Machine, was on the Epigram Books Fiction Prize 2017 shortlist. A three-time winner of the Foyle Young Poet of the Year Award, she graduated from Harvard University. She has published in Prairie Schooner, Asia Literary Review, Quarterly Literary Review Singapore, Cha and many anthologies.

Suffian Hakim woke up one day and discovered that he had inadvertently grown into an adult. In the ensuing panic, he began a career as a writer.
