DESCRIPTION

Disebabkan beberapa faktor, penerbit Melayu kecil sekali jumlahnya.

Taking Steps, Creating Opportunities!

A close examination of history will reveal how Singapore was once the centre of publication in this region. Due to several factors, the number of Malay publishers currently is very small. Nevertheless, Malay publishers in Singapore, however small in number, are still active in enlivening the Malay literary arena. They strive to ensure that Singaporean Malay works can continue to be enjoyed by readers and that voices of Malay writers will not vanish or fade away. This panel will introduce young publishers who will discuss the challenges they face and plans to continue promoting the publishing industry.

This session is in Malay.

FEATURING

Farihan Bahron, a graphic designer, started exploring rhyme and rhythm in his late teens through the art of dikir barat and modern Malay poetry. His works have received various accolades, including first prize in both the Malay short story and Malay poetry categories at the 2015 Golden Point Award. Farihan co-published the poetry anthology Kail Panjang Sejengkal in 2005. He has also recently published a short story collection, Kesumat Sang Avatar, and a new collection of poems, Tukang Tunjuk Telunjuk.

Farihan Bahron is featured in the following SWF event(s):

Azizah is an educator and arts manager who learnt the ropes of publishing during her short stint with Select Books in 2003. She has published Chantek, a collection of plays by playwright Aidli Mosbit, Muzika Lorong Buang Kok by veteran theatre doyen Nadiputra; and fiction including Kota Airmata and Suratman by writers Mohamed Latiff Mohamed and Suratman Markasan respectively. Azizah is currently the Covering Program Chair (Diploma in Arts and Theatre Management) at Republic Polytechnic.

Syarafina Halim is both owner and peon of The Buku Bookstore, an online bookstore that sells mainly Malay fiction, and religious books in both Malay and English. A self-declared bookworm (for which she blames her terrible eyesight), she decided to leave a cushy job and strike out on her own to open a book business on the World Wide Web.
