Patung tokoh-tokoh perintis ini tersergam menghiasi Sungai Singapura. Namun, apakah imej yang dibina mengenai peribadi dan sumbangan mereka dalam karya-karya sastera Melayu. Panel akan membincangkan citra golongan perintis ini yang terakam dalam puisi dan prosa Melayu. Apakah sikap dan sumbangan mereka yang menjadi pemerhatian dan inspirasi buat para penulis? Simbol dan pemaknaan susuk tokoh-tokoh ini dalam karya sastera Melayu membuka ruang perbincangan yang menarik tentang sikap, sudut pengarang, tema serta amanat yang ingin disampaikan.


Sang Nila Utama, Munsyi Abdullah and Raffles: Images of pioneers in Malay literature

The statues of these Malay literary pioneers still adorn the Singapore River. This panel discusses the imagery related to this pioneering group as captured in Malay poetry and prose. How have their attitudes and contributions attracted and inspired our writers? The embodiment and treatment of these figures in Malay literary works opens up  interesting questions on approach and perspective.

Hamed Ismail

Singapore

Mantan penyelia skrip di Mediacorp Eaglevision, Hamed bin Ismail telah menulis, menyunting dan menyelia pelbagai jenis skrip untuk program-program yang diterbitkan untuk siaran televisyen. Pemenang Anugerah Persuratan sebanyak tiga kali bagi drama dan cerpen, beliau juga pernah memenangi Anugerah Pena Emas untuk Puisi Melayu pada tahun 2011. Pada tahun 2013, beliau menerbitkan koleksi puisinya, Suara Dalam.  Novel pertama beliau, Bunga Tanjong telah diterbitkan pada tahun 2017.

Formerly a Mediacorp Eaglevision script supervisor, Hamed bin Ismail has written, edited and supervised the production of countless television scripts. A three-time Malay Literary Award recipient for his plays and stories, he has also won the Golden Point Award for Malay poetry in 2011. In 2013, he published his poetry collection, Suara Dalam. In 2017, he published his first novel, Bunga Tanjong.

Rasiah Halil

Rasiah Halil adalah seorang penyair, penulis, penerjemah dan pendidik. Diterbitkan sejak 1972, sebahagian besarnya karya Rasiah tertumpu kepada isu sosial dan kemanusiaan. Bukunya termasuk Ayah Tak Sayang Padaku Lagi (2007), Hikayat Sri Anggerik (2007) dan Nyanyian Si Anak Dagang (2013). Karya Rasiah telah memenangi beberapa anugerah, termasuk Anugerah Tun Seri Lanang. Di bawah nama samaran 'Sri Anggerik' dan 'Tun Fatimah', Rasiah menulis topik berkaitan manusia dan sastera untuk Berita Minggu. Rasiah pernah mengajar di Singapura dan Brunei dan telah menghadiri Program Penulisan Antarabangsa Iowa pada 1995, di bawah biasiswa Fulbright.

Rasiah Halil is a poet, writer, translator and educator. Published since 1972, Rasiah’s works dwell largely on social and humanitarian issues. Her books include Perbualan Buku Catatan Seorang Gipsi [Conversations: Notebook of a Gypsy; 1988], Orang Luar [The Outsider; 1991], Sungai & Lautan [River & Ocean; 1995], Ayah Tidak Sayang Padaku Lagi [Father No Longer Loves Me; 2007], Hikayat Sri Anggerik [The Chronicles of Sri Anggerik; 2007] and Nyanyian Si Anak Dagang (Songs of the Outsider. 2013) and her works can also be found in various compilations. Since 1983, Rasiah’s works received a number of awards, including the Tun Seri Lanang Award. Under the pseudonyms of ‘Sri Anggerik’ and ‘Tun Fatimah’, Rasiah wrote topics on human interest and literature for Berita Minggu. Rasiah taught in Singapore and Brunei and attended the Iowa International Writing Programme in 1995 on a Fulbright Scholarship.
