DESCRIPTION

The SWF Roundtable series connects our festival audiences with writers in an informal setting to examine a variety of issues surrounding craft, process, and all the things about writing that can energise and infuriate. Bring your burning questions here. 

FEATURING

Christine Chia writes poetry, hybrid memoirs, and plays. She is the author of The Law of Second Marriages, and Separation: A History. She is the co-editor of the poetry anthologies A Luxury We Cannot Afford, A Luxury We Must Afford, and Lines Spark Code. Her first play, We Cannot Bring Money When We Die, was read at Centre 42 in 2019. Her poetry can be found in many publications, including the Washington Square Review, Brooklyn Poets Anthology, Prairie Schooner and the W!LD RICE play, Another Country.

Tse Hao Guang

Singapore

Tse Hao Guang (謝皓光) is a Singaporean poet and editor, assembled with parts from Hong Kong and Malaysia. His first full-length poetry collection, Deeds of Light, was shortlisted for the 2016 Singapore Literature Prize. He is a 2016 fellow of the University of Iowa's International Writing Program, and the 2018 National Writer-in-Residence at Nanyang Technological University. He has things in Hotel, Asian American Writers' Workshop, Sand Journal, AJAR, High Chair, Entropy, Third Coast, and Prairie Schooner. The new work-in-progress is tentatively titled I get buzzed seeing your hand's just left.

Boey Kim Cheng has published five collections of poetry, a travel memoir entitled Between Stations, and a historical novel entitled Gull Between Heaven and Earth. Born in 1965, he emigrated from Singapore to Australia in 1997. He taught creative writing at the University of Newcastle for 13 years before joining Nanyang Technological University in 2016.

Melizarani T Selva is a Malaysian spoken word poet venturing into prose. To date, she has performed in six countries with notable performances at the Commonwealth People's Forum in London and ZEE Jaipur Literature Festival. Her first book, Taboo made the Top 10 Best-Seller List on Malaysia’s number one Online Bookstore, MPH. Her poems have been translated in French and Bahasa Malaysia. Presently, she co-runs the Malaysia National Poetry Slam and has co-published an anthology comprising of 100 poems by 61 poets from Malaysia titled When I Say Spoken, You Say Word!

William Beale is an Australian spoken word poet and the author/composer of They Call Us Loud (2015/2016). He has performed at the Sydney Opera House, the Esplanade, George Town Literary Festival, Ubud Writers Festival, White Night Melbourne and more. Beale is the former creative producer of the Slamalamadingdong poetry slam and co-founder of the Malaysia National Poetry Slam and If Walls Could Talk.
