DESCRIPTION

With rhyme and rhythm, poetry and music have always been intertwined. Three poets – Deborah Emmanuel, Cyril Wong and Theophilus Kwek – discuss how their music sensibilities have influenced their works, be it in form or in theme.

FEATURING

Deborah Emmanuel is a Singaporean writer, performer, and four-time TEDx speaker. Her performance work has taken her to places such as Melbourne, Berlin, London, Bali and Kathmandu​​. ​Deborah​ has published the poetry collection When I Giggle in My Sleep (2015) and the memoir Rebel Rites (2016). When not writing or performing poetry, she is an actor​ on stage and screen,​​ and​ makes music with her bands Wobology and The Ditha Project​.​

Cyril Wong is a poet, fictionist and critic living in Singapore. His most recent poetry collection is The Lover’s Inventory (2015).

Theophilus Kwek has published five volumes of poetry, including The First Five Storms, which won the New Poets Prize. He previously won the Berfrois Poetry Prize, and was placed second in the Stephen Spender Prize for poetry in translation. His poems, translations and reviews have appeared in The Guardian, The London Magazine, The Irish Examiner, Cha, and elsewhere. He serves as co-editor of Oxford Poetry, and is also co-editor of Unfree Verse, an anthology of formal poetry from Singapore.
