Amidst the expectations of genre, readership demands, and social norms, some writers have chosen to go off the beaten path and pursue a more unconventional or experimental process. Hear from these writers as they share the pressures and challenges they have faced in charting a path of their own, and finding their voices and readership.

This session is made possible with the assistance of the Embassy of Colombia.

Jorge Franco Ramos was born in Medellín, Colombia. His novel Rosario Tijeras (1999) marked the emergence of one the most promising writers of new Latin American narrative. He also wrote Paraíso Travel, Melodrama, and El Mundo De Afuera, which won the Premio Alfaguara in 2014. 2018's EL Cielo A Tiros is perhaps his most profound and accomplished work to date.
