DESCRIPTION

A Los Angeles governed by martial law. An alternate world without global terrorism. A China on the ascendency as the West stagnates. Join three writers who, through their alternative histories, challenge readers to contemplate the potential futures our actions and choices can lead to.

This session is part of the Speculative Fiction focus.

FEATURING

Lavie Tidhar is the author of many short stories, novellas and novels, including Osama (2011), The Violent Century (2013), and A Man Lies Dreaming (2014). He has won the World Fantasy Award, the Jerwood Fiction Uncovered Prize, and has been nominated for the Premio Roma. His latest novel, Central Station (2016), won the John W. Campbell Memorial Award and was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award and the Locus Award.

Marie Lu is the author of the New York Times bestselling The Young Elites series and the Legend series. Her newest book is Warcross. She graduated from the University of Southern California and jumped into the video game industry as an artist. Now a full-time writer, she spends her spare time reading, drawing, playing games, and getting stuck in traffic. She lives in Los Angeles with one husband, one Chihuahua mix, and two Pembroke Welsh corgis.

Chan Koon Chung is a Sinophone writer. His 2009 novel The Fat Years has been translated into 13 languages, while his 2015 novel The Second Year of Jianfeng made the Highly Recommended list of the 2016 Dream of the Red Chamber Award, and was also included in the ‘Twenty Chinese Novels from 2000 to 2015’ list by Taiwan’s National Culture and Arts Foundation. Koon Chung was the Writer of the Year at the 2013 Hong Kong Book Fair.
