Nurture creative confidence and be inspired in a fun, educational and interactive morning at the National Gallery Singapore. Join us as we bring tales to life through books and storytelling with the help of fabulous children’s authors, illustrators and drama practitioners. Enjoy dramatic readings and interactive craft or drama activities as well as tours at the National Gallery Singapore. To find out more about the Gallery tours, click here.

 

The whole learning experience will take a total of 2 hours and will include a workshop and a 45 minute guided Gallery tour, unless stated otherwise. Each session is limited to 30 students and teachers. Find out more about the programmes below.

 

Programmes are eligible for the Tote Board Arts Grant subsidy.

MOVE YOUR BODY By R Chandran and Amy J Cheng

Ages 2 - 4 | Art Playscape | 1 hr 30 mins | $5 per student

 

Pose like a tree? Stretch like a pencil? What other shapes can you make with your bodies? Have fun and explore the possibilities with R Chandran and Amy J Cheng, the husband and wife team behind ACT 3 Theatrics. Cultivate creative self-expression and build confidence through a variety of exciting activities.

 

This programme will be followed by a 30 minute self-guided tour.

OF WORRIES AND NEW BEGINNINGS By Leila Boukarim

Ages 5 - 6 | Workshop Space | 45 mins | $5 per student

 

In Leila Boukarim’s second book, Aiden Finds a Way, Aiden was excited to visit the fire station, but isn’t so sure he wants to join in the fun when he gets there. Learn how Aiden overcomes his worries about being in a new environment and create a bookmark with the author.

PUPPETS AND CREAM PIES By Nikole Horkin

Ages 5 - 6 | Project Gallery | 45 mins | $5 per student

 

Discover the art of puppetry through two short puppet plays with author and puppeteer, Nikole Horkin. Then free your imagination and your body, as you take part in fun drama exercises to retell the story.

A DAY AT THE NATIONAL GALLERY SINGAPORE By Lianne Ong and James Tan

Ages 5 - 6 | Workshop Space | 45 mins | $5 per student

 

What artworks will Stacey see at the National Gallery Singapore? Will they be different from the ones from your Gallery tour? Find out and enjoy an interactive reading of Stacey Goes to the National Gallery Singapore by author Lianne Ong. Re-create one of the artworks using simple shapes and patterns in a draw along with the book’s illustrator, James Tan.

FIRE! VOLCANOES! ANIMALS! By R Chandran

Ages 5 - 6 | Project Gallery | 45 mins | $5 per student 
 

Enjoy a lively session inspired by the artwork Forest Fire by Raden Saleh. Join veteran theatre practitioner R Chandran as he brings the artwork to life through a story based on the artwork told with the help of puppets. Then explore different body movements and become characters from the artwork - an animal, a volcano and more in this session.

FUNNY FAMILY PORTRAITS By Hanoch Piven

How do you draw a smelly dog? Add dirty socks, of course! Get in on the action and explore unusual and fun ways to create funny family portraits of your own with Israeli author and collage artist, Hanoch Piven.

Materials will be provided for you to continue the fun at home.
