Mohd Latiff is widely regarded as a radical poet, whose works revolve around the life and struggle of the Malay community in post-independence Singapore. Among his outstanding works are the poem ‘Bangsaku di Hari Lahirku’, the short story Mondok and the novel Batas Langit, apart from numerous essays and criticism. He has received the prestigious Montblanc-National University of Singapore Centre For the Arts Literary Award (1988), the SEA Write Award (2002) and the Tun Seri Lanang Award (2003) for his outstanding contributions in literature. His poetry collection, Bagiku Sepilah Sudah, and book of short stories, Nostalgia yang Hilang, received the Singapore Literature Prize in 2004 and 2006 respectively.
