In Irish novelist John Boyne’s 2006 bestseller, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, the horrors of World War II are seen through the eyes of children. In the gripping story, which was adapted into a film in 2008, the son of a Nazi officer befriends a Jewish boy who is interned in a concentration camp. John will speak about his timeless tale of friendship and lost innocence.

Kamini Ramachandran, co-founder of MoonShadow Stories, will display her knack for telling stories by sharing five entertaining tales compiled from different parts of the world: a story riddle, The Little Red House; an African-American tale about the classic trickster, Brer Rabbit and the Alligator; a traditional Burmese folktale, Not My Problem; a Russian fairytale, Baba Yaga and the Black Geese; and Aesop’s fable, The Fox and the Crow.

Workshop: Story Craft Level 1 by Monsters Under the Bed

Story Craft Level 1 - Basic & Intermediate (ages 7 to 9) Story Craft Level 1 is part of Monsters Under the Bed's stepped programme that nurtures students into becoming accomplished authors. Our specialized trainers will teach children to identify key elements in the literary process and learn to apply the same techniques to their writing. Students will be exposed to the simple and effective use of story motifs, narratology, modality and many other elements that they can utilize to form engaging plots. Story Craft Level 1 gives children the opportunity to express their ideas confidently, think creatively and write more effectively.
