MURALS
Murals of my heart, broken and bare,
The colours of our love no longer there,
My face carved into a distant stare,
Gone were the times when we used to care.
You clothed me in the veils of your eyes,
Stripped away my sadness and my sighs,
Strengthened me just to make me weak,
You went away and everything came to bleak.
Rise from my ashes in the break of dawn,
Forgotten, forgiven, forsaken, forgone,
No longer David for I am now Goliath,
Demons of your love now laid to rest, never for another birth.
You plead, you bleed, you rave and you rant,
And decided to come round my way again,
Over that hot coffee at the takeaway stand,
Can't you see I'm holding another girl's hand?
You may have changed for all you say,
The fact remains you led yourself astray,
My heart is not yours it's hers for keeps,
You had it once but you made it your loose change for tips.
Our history was meant to be just that,
Memories inked in the heart that had once profusely bled,
From you I knew how love was badly misconstrued,
From now I know she has everything that love should.

DISTANT THOUGHTS
Distant melodies play in my mind,
with fading memories,
of what it used to be.
Happy laughter and present surprises,
silent reminders,
of yesterday's dreams
Choosing to dwell and be locked,
with despair and failed courage,
of a comfort that is sought.
Longing for a future that is not,
with quiet moments
of my useless thoughts

SINGER-SONGWRITER: MANG IRAMA DUSQIE
(GOODFELLAS & ZERO SEQUENCE)
POET: KAU YONG MENG
Let us learn to live
yesterday's lies are put to grief.
But still we fall, our weakness is too strong
Loving the forgotten hurt with pain,
and joy, if only for a moment.
This is what I choose.
This is what I live with.
Let us learn to live
yesterday's lies are put to grief,
Tomorrow can be a hope,
today is all there is to be.
SINGER-SONGWRITER: SARA WEE (53A)
POET: ANG JING WEI
HANDFUL OF
EARTH
(inspired by "Vespers"--Louise Gluck)
before you left
you gave me a vessel
and a handful of earth
sweet and dark with afternoon rains
(that we've traced together)
in which to hide these naked seeds
nameless as a lick of stars
straying in the sky.
I buried them deep, along with my hunger
and waited for a sign.
nothing happened for a few days
so I prayed for
a bit more sunshine and
softer rains.
I'm always dusting empty
rooms and breathing into overflowing
notebooks. then one day, in the space
between words, I felt a tug in the threads
of my heart, like roots reaching
into the depths
of still places.
my longing grows hidden in the
earth, finding warmth and darkness but it's never enough.
when my pencil falls silent
I put my ear to the sun-drenched soil
listening
to the swelling roots.
how easily sunlight fills the room you've emptied
dissolving echoes in her raw membrane
yet how heavily the night falls on me.
nestled in his wing, I close my eyes to feel
the first shoots tear through dust,
trembling in the shock of birth.
