இரு பாதை ஒரு பயணம்

“பார்த்து, விழுந்துடாதே, பயப்படாம, கவனமா புடிச்சுக்கிட்டு மேலே ஏறு.” அக்கறையான, தன்னம்பிக்கை ஊட்டும் அம்மாவின் குரல். “உன்னோட விளையாட்டுச்சாமான்களை மத்த பிள்ளைகளுக்கும் கொடு. சேர்ந்து விளையாடுங்க.” பகிர்ந்து கொண்டு பரிவு காட்ட வேண்டும் என்று, விளையாடும் இடத்திலும் பாடம் நடத்தும் இன்னொரு தாயின் குரல். புக்கிட் மேராவில், ஏழைக் குடும்பங்கள் வாழும் ஓரறை வீட்டுக்கு அருகில் உள்ள சிறுவர் விளையாட்டுத் திடலில், அந்தக் குரல்கள் காற்றில் கலந்து கரைந்து கொண்டிருந்தன. அந்தச் சிறுவர்கள் விளையாடும் சின்னத் திடலில், மாலை நேரத்தில் நிறைய பிள்ளைகள் அங்கும் இங்கும் ஓடிக் கொண்டிருந்தார்கள்.

"Look out, do not fall," went the confidence-boosting voice of a concerned mother. "Without fear, carefully hold onto it and climb up." A lesson to share and show love was conveyed by another mother's voice: "Give your toys to other children as well. Play together." In Bukit Merah, where poor families live in one-room flats, these voices were mixing and melting away with the wind at the nearby children's playground. Within the small area, lots of children could be seen playing that evening, running about here and there.
